As a consumer, we may think that for a skincare product to have reached the market, it is automatically trustworthy to be used on your skin, right? ... Unfortunately, this is not always the case.

To produce and sell skincare products you have to comply with the relevant legislation relating to the recipe and the final product. Cosmetic Regulations are strict, and so they should be! Your Skin is precious!        

 
As a creator and seller of skincare we are legally bound to obtain a CPSR - Well what is this? This is a Cosmetic Product Safety Report which is signed by a certified Chemist/Toxicologist. The Safety report confirms the recipe and finished products are safe for skin application, set by UK Regulations. 

Unfortunately, businesses are not required to share this information which makes it very difficult to navigate the handmade skincare market safely. 

We understand this can be a scary prospect, whilst the idea of a product being handmade casts an idealistic image into our minds, we cannot always be certain the ingredients used and final products are safe. However, we have one handy tip for you to look out for with UK sellers - see or ask if they are registered with an organisation such as the Guild of Craft Soap & Toiletry Makers. Organisations such as this one are usually free for the business to become a member of but they will require the business to provide proof of their CPSR to join. This means when you see a business advertising their membership to a guild alike this one, you can be sure their products are safety tested.
